Christer Strömholm (1918–2002) was one of the great photographers of the 20th century, but he is little known outside of his native Sweden. This exhibition presents his most powerful and acclaimed body of work: Les Amies de Place Blanche, a documentation of transsexual \"ladies of the night\" in Paris in the 1960s. He founded the legendary photography college Fotoskolan in Stockholm in 1962 and inspired an entire generation of Swedish photographers. In the late 1980s, gallerist Kim Klein proposed a small exhibition of Strömholm's pictures at the Lido Gallery in Stockholm. Strömholm agreed and entrusted Smoliansky with making a selection from his early 6x6 Rolleiflex negatives.

Autobiographic in nature, the book is composed like an existentialist diary and offers snippets of Christer Strömholm’s great world voyages. Juxtaposing, in a depraved world, the agreeable and the macabre, and combining portraits and street scenes with abstract photographic fragments, the book makes use of visual metaphors and word-play.
